Jack is Dead; Radio Listeners Rejoice

Categories: Media

Jack, that insipid radio-format that's supposed to sound like someone's— the captain of your high school football team's? — iPod on shuffle, is not long for New York, Crain's New York Business reported today on its web site. What's more, next week 101.1 FM will return to the beloved oldies format that New Yorkers came to know for 33 years before CBS brass pulled the plug without warning in 2005.

Sure, New York City radio will still suck. ( WFMU, WFUV, WBAI, and a few others being the notable exceptions.) But knowing that you can turn the dial and hear "Judy in Disguise (With Glasses), "Along Comes Mary," and "96 Tears" should make the crappy radio situation a little better. Anything is better than Jack.
