Cops Seek Man Who Fatally Slashed Upper East Side Shrink
The NYPD released a sketch on Wednesday of the man suspected of brutally slaying an Upper East Side psychologist with a meat cleaver and 9-inch knife in her East 79th Street office on Tuesday night.
The psychologist, Kathryn Faughey, 56, was fatally hacked at about 9 p.m. Tuesday night by an assailant described by police as a white male in his forties who stood about 5’9” and 200 lbs. Cops say he was wearing a three-quarter length green jacket and a baseball cap at the time of the attack. The police also released a video surveillance footage of the suspect entering and exiting the building.
Cops are trying to determine whether the attacker was a patient of Faughey. Police recovered three knives from the scene including the cleaver, as well as a suitcase with women's clothing and adults diapers, according to the Associated Press.
"The condition of the room was that of a fierce struggle,'' NYPD spokesman Paul Browne said at a briefing Wednesday, according to the AP. "There was blood on the floor and on the walls.''
An associate of Faughey's, Dr. Kent Shinbach, tried to save her and is recovering from slash wounds to the head, face and arms. Cops ask anyone with information to call 800-577-TIPS.
