McGreevey Scandal: The Denial
So, if Jim McGreevey made it on to Grey's Anatomy, would "McSkeevy" be his nickname? Day two of the threesome bombshell consists of the former governor of New Jersey confirm the allegations that he and his soon-to-be-ex-wife had sex with their former chauffeur, while Dina Matos McGreevey denies it. This story is just too good, and today both papers went all-out with the headlines. The Post screams, "McG: IT WAS 3-MENDOUS SEX" and the News highlights Matos McGreevey's denial with "Me? A McOrgy? Never, sez wife." Matos McGreevey claims that Ted Pedersen is a crony of her husband's and told the Daily News that Jim McGreevey "cannot stand it when I am receiving attention in the media rather than him."
Of course, the trope that's coming up now is "won't somebody think of the children?" The Post delivers with Andrea Peyser's column, which includes one of the most nausea-inducing lines I've read in a while, about the couples T.G.I. Friday's-tinged "Friday Night Specials," "According to former McGreevey driver Pedersen, the couple frequently enjoyed dinner a trios, before retiring to lick leftover spicy Buffalo wing sauce and chive-immersed sour cream from Pedersen's body." This is in a column in which we're supposed to think of the McGreeveys' 6-year-old daughter Jacqueline! The headline is "Save this kid from hell pair," but there's all this talk of "hot and greasy" men and "middle-aged lust." Talk about having it both ways!
The News is more traditional in it's "what about the kids?" coverage. They dedicate the front of the "NOW" section to a guide for parents on how to answer questions like, "What is a threesome?" and "Have you ever been with a prostitute?" News you can use, I guess.
Speaking of outrage, be sure to check out the Post's Letters to the Editor today, which are all about Friday's "Kristen" cover. There's a mix of outrage and commendation.
