Mayor Bloomberg Wants You To Quit Smoking (Wherever You Are)

Categories: Featured

Mayor Mike made it his mission to snuff out smoking in New York City, now he's hoping to take the act worldwide.

Michael Bloomberg joined Bill and Melinda Gates in Times Square earlier today to announce a plan aimed at getting developing countries to quit smoking. The $500 million Gates Foundation initiative follows a report by the World Health Organization -- one which Bloomberg helped to fund -- on global tobacco use. The mayor calls the initiative "one of the most important public health efforts of our time."

Back in February, Bloomberg was on hand for the release of the initial study, which asserts that smoking will lead to the deaths of more than a billion people over the next century if decisive action isn't taken.
