Assembly Candidate Keeps Forgetting His Criminal Record

We know some State Assembly candidates have ethical lapses on their records, but we doubt many of them have been charged with grand larceny. Shocked supporters of poor Nelson Castro, a Bronx Democrat, recently learned that four years ago their candidate pled down from grand to petit larceny for collecting unemployment while employed, reports the New York Times. For Castro this is "an episode that he has placed long behind him," as they say, and so, we guess, was his recently-revealed arrest for driving with a revoked license earlier this year.

We still hope Castro wins, and gets to work with Assemblyman Jack McEnery (D-104), whose 2006 bill expanded New York State’s criminal DNA database "to encompass all persons convicted of felonies and 18 key misdemeanors, including petit larceny."
