Morning Papers: Queens to the Bronx, "Baaa" to "Booo"

The Queens Zoo has taken receipt of two "chocolate browncolored babydoll lambs," says the Queens Gazette. Babydolls are also known as Southdown miniature sheep, and you can learn more about them, and the 1980s fight to save them from extinction, here. This acquisition, the Gazette proudly announces, "brings the Zoo's sheep count to 18."

Both the 160-year-old High Bridge, which connects Manhattan and the Bronx, and Washington Heights' adjacent Highbridge Park are getting a makeover, Mayor Bloomberg announced yesterday. $60 million is budgeted to bring the decrepit pedestrian bridge, closed since the 1970s, back to its former glory. amNY says the Bridge is expected to reopen in 2012.

Williamsburg City Councilwoman Diana Reyna leaves the office early on Fridays. You probably expected as much. But! Reyna then goes to a vacant lot at South 4th Street and Hewes and starts digging and mulching, in hopes of turning the lot into a community garden, says the New York Daily News.

Yesterday Robert Domaszowec was washing windows, as had his father before him, at 40 Fifth Avenue when his safety hooks gave way, dropping him 12 floors to his death, reports the Daily News.

Cars can only traverse Prospect Park four hours each weekday, but Mayor Bloomberg is hinting at a total ban, says the New York Sun.

"A-Rod Gets Booed in the Bronx," says the Bleacher Report. No wonder: Rodriguez went 0 for 5, hit into two double plays, and struck out to end the ninth inning of the Yankees' 7-3 loss to the Red Sox last night. River Ave. Blues points out that A-Rod "single-handedly accounted for 26 percent of the Yankee outs and left seven runners on base." The New York Post called the third baseman "putrid."
