Post Says DA Looking to Charge Deutsche Bank Inspectors, Contractors

deutschesmoke.jpgLast weekend we mentioned a New York Times story that all but predicted indictments pertaining to the Deutsche Bank fire. Today the New York Post gets more specific: "The Manhattan DA wants contractors and private safety inspectors working on the Deutsche Bank demolition to face homicide charges," says the Post.

Two firefighters were killed in the blaze at the Bank, which was being decontaminated of toxic waste in preparation for demolition. The Times speculated that Manhattan DA Morgenthau's office might bring charges against the City itself, and the Post mentions this too.

The Post's sources also addressed the state of mind of Robert Morgenthau's legal team, saying they "are angry at Bloomberg for jumping the gun by announcing new city safety standards for demolitions while the grand jury was still weighing charges." and believe the City's Corporation Counsel, Michael Cardozo, is "not cooperating" with and slowing the investigation. A Morgenthau spokesman denies the charges.
