Powderly Beijing Update

powderly.jpgWe have mentioned that Brooklyn artists James Powderly was detained in Beijing earlier this week by Chinese authorities for protesting on behalf of Tibet outside the Olympic games. The Brooklyn Paper fleshes the story out today. It turns out that three other Brooklyn artists -- Powderly collaborators Samantha Corbin, Jacob Blumenfeld, and Lauren Valle -- were detained the same day for a separate protest. And though previous reports showed Powderly's FREE TIBET throwie in operation, the Brooklyn Paper says Powderly was arrested before he could illuminate it in Beijing. Meanwhile, the Chinese Government continues its war on foreign artists by other means, blocking iTunes in their country because a "Songs for Tibet" protest album is available through the service.
