S.I. Horse Captured; Rider Found Dead

pocohorsesmall.jpgWe mentioned yesterday a runaway horse reported near Clay Pit Road on Staten Island. We are sorry to learn that the horse was unmanned because its rider had died in the saddle, per the Staten Island Advance. William Whalen, 79, was an accomplished horseman, "full of old cowboy stories," and continued to ride his sorrel gelding Jackeyed Leo even after a series of heart attacks. Whalen's body was found on a trail near Clay Pit Road and Veterans Road West. Jackeyed Leo was caught and returned to the West Wind Stables.
