Bad Habits: Rick Owens' Nun Chic

Daniel Saynt of Fashionindie (the folks who earlier brought us that Brooklyn Bridge runway show) reveals designer Rick Owens' new line of what Saynt calls "nunnery wear." "Has Rick Owens finally reinvented the nun for a new generation?" he asks. Superfuture Supertalk had this in previews; "There is such a total BDSM undercurrent to being a nun," said one commenter, "Black clothing, strict enforcement of rules, spankings, ritualistic penance." There is also a video of the runway show, which looks like something from The Song of Bernadette remade by Jean-Jacques Beineix. As a former Catholic school internee, Runnin' Scared can only say that Owens has ruined a beautiful fantasy.
