Barr vs. Bloomberg in Georgia Court
Mayor Bloomberg's lawsuits against "irresponsible" out-of-state gun dealers -- whose practices, the suits claimed, were harmful to New Yorkers -- have resulted in some victories for the Mayor. But one of the dealers, Adventure Outdoor Sports of Smyrna, Georgia, has filed suit against Bloomberg for libel, and yesterday the dealer's lawyer, Bob Barr -- who is also a former Georgia Congressman and the current Libertarian Party Presidential candidate -- took the case to a federal appeals court in Atlanta.
AP reports that Barr argued that the case should be returned to the state court where he originated it, while Bloomberg's lawyers want it to stay where it is or, better yet, be dismissed. The legal teams also argued over the degree of immunity to prosecution to which his office entitles him. The case is ongoing.
