Brooklyn Book Fest: from Joan Didion to Gossip Girl

brooklynbook.jpgYesterday was the Brooklyn Book Festival at Borough Hall. The Voice's own Sound of the City was there, and reports on Joan Didion's "surprisingly young woman's voice," Henry Alford's assessment of Raymond Chandler ("Hilarious"), Rivka Galchen reading "some of her favorite Dewey Decimal subcategories," and more. For fans of short-shorts, SotC also provides a list of fun Fest quotes (e.g. Ian MacKaye: "I would like to encourage you to stop using made-up verbs like 'Google'"). It's like being there -- no, better: you can get up and leave without offending anyone.

Other sources report that Cecily von Ziegsar read from Gossip Girl and that Manil Suri did a Bollywood dance number. No wonder the place was packed!
