Crooked Cops Eppolito and Caracappa Get Re-Convicted

concops.jpgTwo years ago Louis Eppolito and Stephen Caracappa, two cops whose alleged extra-cirriculars for the Mob included murder, were found guilty by a jury of racketeering conspiracy, but Judge Jack Weinstein declined to impose the life sentences for which the verdict called because felt the statute of limitations had run out on the specific crime of which they'd been convicted. Prosecutors don't like to give up on highly public cases like this, and yesterday got a U.S. Court of Appeals panel to rule that Weinstein had been too forgiving in his judgment as to which of the many, many criminal acts by the two former officers were part of the conspiracy, the New York Times reports. More legal action will follow but the Times expects the men will wind up behind bars for the rest of their lives.
