Hannah Upp Found Alive in Bay, Rescued

uppwater.jpgThe Staten Island Advance reports that Hannah Upp, the Harlem schoolteacher whose disappearance on August 29 was widely covered, has been pulled from the waters of Upper New York Bay about a mile from the Staten Island ferry slip. Rescuers recovered her alive and delivered her to Richmond University Medical Center conscious.

It was originally thought that Upp had jumped from the John J. Marchi, a Staten Island ferry, but the Advance says they have ruled that out. The New York Daily News reports that Upp had jumped from a pier.

Coverage of Upp's disappearance has been unusually intense. Though foul play was at first suspected, after Upp was spotted checking email in an Apple Store it was supposed that she had dropped out of her own accord.
