Luxury Apts. Coming to the Mighty Gowanus
Toll Brothers wishes to build a "mixture of townhouses and low- and mid-rise apartment buildings" on its Gowanus Canal property between Third and Carroll Streets. The Brooklyn Eagle reports that the City Planning Commission has certified Toll Brothers’ application for a zoning change that would permit it. In the 1990s a friend of ours moved into a large apartment near the South Brooklyn Casket Company on a handshake basis with the landlord, who told him, "Rent is $450 when you move in, $450 when you move out." Our friend has since moved upstate, as has any prospect of deals like that in Gowanus, we expect.
