Jasmine Liggins' brother came by her Bed-Stuy home yesterday morning and found his sister shot dead, reports the New York Post. Liggins had a degree from John Jay and had been working as a paralegal at a Brooklyn law firm. She leaves an 11-year-old daughter, Treasure. The New York Daily News adds that Liggens' boyfriend was observed leaving the apartment sometime that day and has not been seen since. "She wanted to end the relationship, but he didn't want to," her mother told the News.
Jason Ruiz answered a knock on his girlfriend's door in Sunset Park at 1:30 a.m. yesterday and was stabbed to death, says the New York Times. The New York Post IDs the assailant as the girlfriend's ex.
On Saturday Julio Flores' ex-girlfriend came by his Gun Hill Road home to pick up a cable box. Flores stabbed Jaritza Calderone to death, cut up her remains, bagged them, and disposed of them at a construction site in Teaneck, New Jersey where he used to work. Someone in the neighborhood reported Flores' suspicious activities to police, which led to his arrest and confession on Sunday, says the Daily News.
Around 4 a.m. Saturday morning Mike Stith was hanging with friends on 116th Drive in Jamaica, Queens when a masked gunman ambushed him, the Daily News reports. Stith had three kids and his girlfriend is due to deliver another.
10-year-old Denia Kearse was at a block party on President Street in Crown Heights Saturday night when gunfire erupted. She ran to her grandmother's house, apparently unaware that she'd been shot in both shoulders. She is expected to recover, says the News.
Though her mother, brother, and sister were at home, a 7-month-old girl drowned in the family bathtub in Staten Island last night around 10:30 a.m., says the Staten Island Advance. She was discovered by her brother, age seven.
