Roosevelt Island Getting Crowded, Hard to Leave

tramtwo.jpgWe mentioned earlier the construction boom on Roosevelt Island. Now the New York Observer has noticed some of the fallout: stresses on the Island's exceedingly modest transportation system. The tram, train, and bus are getting very crowded: average weekday ridership at the F train stop has increased by over 60 percent in 10 years. Things are expected to get worse when they start renovating the tram in April. "It's going to hit the fan one of these days," says the president of the local Residents' Association. A principal of a local development says it's no worse than what's happening in Williamsburg, which sounds ominous to us.
