Empire State Goes Back to the 1930s; Us, Too

kingkong.jpgamNY's Urbanite announces a $600 million restoration of the Empire State Building's lobby and facade. Aside from some tedious office modernization upstairs, the renovations will be dazzling and retro: the lobby ceiling's gold-lead mural will be re-created, escalators removed, a chandelier and other period light fixtures added, the staff obliged to wear Art Deco outfits, etc. All in all, says Urbanite, the place will be "restored to how it looked when the World’s Tallest Building — at the time — opened May 1, 1931." Just in time for the new Depression! Us and Apple Annie will be there for the unveiling.
