Frozen Cup of Bellerose to be Replaced by Days Inn
The Daily News called it "an unofficial Bellerose landmark," it was featured in a "Sex and the City" episode, and it had one fan at least at Chowhound. But after fifty years, the Frozen Cup custard stand in Bellerose, Queens is closing. The Queens Chronicle reports that the property's new owner will raze it and put up a Days Inn. Surprisingly to us, hotels in that neighborhood do good business (it's near the Mets and Belmont Park Race Track), so the owner has a shot. But locals are disturbed. "It will stand out like a sore thumb" in the low-rise community, says one, and "block the view of houses on 249th Street." (h/t Queens Crap.)
