Judge Strikes Down TLC's Hybrid Taxi Demand

The Mayor wants all yellow cabs to be green, and to that end his TLC demanded all new cabs get 25 mpg -- which they can only do if they're hybrids. The cab owners' trade organization sued, and today won their case, with Judge Paul Crotty finding that they could comply with Federal environmental regulations without, and would be "irreparably injured" by, the TLC ruling.
The Mayor, typically magnanimous in defeat, said the judgment shows "that archaic Washington regulations are applicable and therefore New York City, and all other cities, are prevented from choosing to create cleaner air and a healthier place to live."
