MTA Stops Trains, Names Room for Beloved Motorman

mooreplaque.jpgSo that's what was going on with the W train yesterday: the Daily News reports that to honor the passing of veteran conductor and motorman Michael Moore, the MTA took the "extremely unusual" step of stopping the northbound W at Queensborough Plaza, rather than proceeding to Ditmar Boulevard, between 9:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. We were envisioning something like the truckers stopping and pulling their horns for Rubber Duck in Convoy, but they did it so Moore's colleagues could hold a ceremony at the Ditmars platform. (The N picked up the slack.)

Moore is described as a "larger-than-life character" who rolled with his "cap tilted to the side, a cigar clenched between his teeth and a joke always at the ready." The MTA has offered another singular gesture to Moore's memory: they named the crew room at Ditmars after him, and installed a plaque. He's only the third transit worker to be so honored.
