Obama, McCain Tell Lame Jokes at Al Smith Dinner

This charity dinner has been held every year since 1945, and apparently has gone steadily downhill, at least since the years when candidates drank. We understand half of LBJ's jokes were about his pecker, and the other half were about fucking Alice Glass.

But seriously, folks, these guys kinda suck. We give the edge to McCain, but that's like saying Jeff Foxworthy is funnier than Bill Engvall.

Well, it's for a good cause, and it helps preserve the pleasing fiction that politics in America isn't a bestial, amoral struggle among madmen for corrupting power. And there were some who liked it even less than we did: At National Review Kathryn J. Lopez cried, "Watching Obama laugh about ACORN, and Cardinal Egan guffawing with him about all matter of issues, is more than a little off-putting. But that's because I'm one of those (rare?) Americans who realizes what a threat he is to the dignity of human life. And I happen to be a Catholic who realizes it's my obligation to take that into consideration -- and not lightly." Jesus.
