Councilmembers Join Mob, Mock Citi Field

Yesterday we mentioned the derisory names some folks want to hang on Citi Field now that Citigroup is a Federal beggar. Well, city councilmembers Vincent Ignizio and James Oddo have made the mockery quasi-official, at least, by publicly suggesting that the new park be renamed Citi/Taxpayer Field. Even better, reporters got Mets COO Wilpon and Citigroup spokesman Steve Silverman to issue a no-comment, further legitimizing the mockery. A small victory, but we expect that on opening day any public-address shouts to Citigroup will be greeted with the sort of abuse Mets fans usually reserve for relief pitchers.
