Despite Drop in Costs, Area Bagels, Pizza Go Up

bagel.jpgIn August we were delighted to learn that flour prices were dropping and a Brooklyn Heights bagel vendor had reduced his prices accordingly. But today the Daily News says flour is still down, but bagel prices are rising around the city. And, though mozzarella's gotten cheaper, pizza prices are up too, the News reports. Interviewed vendors plead rising rents or ignorance ("It was up to the boss").

The News found some holdouts: Manhattan's 99 Cent Fresh Pizza is still 99 cents, and Montague Street Bagels remains faithful to their summer price-off. "We're not con men," the owner explains. Photo via dano (cc)
