Goodbye to being a "socialist" and "anti-American" because you supported a moderate Democrat. Some people will still call you these things, but it is transparently crazy now that the alleged leader of all anti-American socialists is also the leader of the Free World.
Goodbye also to "San Francisco Democrats," and to "card-carrying member of the ACLU," even if you are in fact from San Francisco and/or a member of the American Civil Liberties Union.
Goodbye to hockey moms and Joe the Plumber and pit bulls with lipstick and mavericks and God Damn America. Goodbye to George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, Condi Rice, Michael Chertoff et alia. Goodbye to the segregation of the world's most exclusive club, and its ladies auxiliary.
Goodbye to being less of an American because you live in a city or care about civil rights or read books or drink lattes or eat arugula or take public transportation or occasionally speak in complex sentences.
Welcome back to the United States.
