Governor Hassled for Rich Rug
Governor Paterson's press is usually pretty good, but maybe yesterday's botched budget deal has tarnished him a little: Eyewitness News is getting on his case for a $21,000 Turkish rug Paterson bought for the Executive Mansion in July.
They got the story from the Albany Times-Union, which further reports that an Office of Government Services spokesman called the rug part of "ongoing maintenance" and the Mansion "a kind of museum," though the paper says that the Mansion is "generally off-limits to the public" and that the Times Union's requests to photograph the rug were denied for "security reasons."
"Critics say government should cut waste before asking citizens to sacrifice," says Eyewitness News.
