Obamas on "60 Minutes"; Press Plays Nice

60minutes.jpgThe Obamas were on "60 Minutes" last night, and their performance was low-key and mostly anodyne, with the President-Elect showing the requisite concern for national security ("I think it’s important to get a national security team in place because transition periods are potentially times of vulnerability to a terrorist attack"), allaying fears that he'll nationalize everything like FDR ("1932, 1933 the unemployment rate was 25 percent... the answer is not heavy-handed regulations that crush the entrepreneurial spirit"), and playing cagey on appointments ("Beyond that, you're not getting anything out of me, Steve").

The P-E and the First Lady engaged in playful sitcom banter, joshing about Obama's slovenly housekeeping ("Since when was it ever soothing for you to wash the dishes?") and such like. The P-E also punctuated with "man" a few times to demonstrate his comfort level.

The New York Post respected the Presidential honeymoon tradition with a this-guy's-alright headline ("Watch Your Back, Bin Laden"), and even the Wall Street Journal synergized with Obama's call for national college football championship playoffs. "Sasha and Malia are Among His Biggest Concerns," reported the Daily News.

Commenters at leftwing Daily Kos were pleased. "He was much better than when on the trail" said St Louis Woman. "I guess that's what a week of sleeping in your own bed will get you."
