Tales of the New Depression, Part I

gallup.jpgThe Daily News tells the heartwarming story of upstate New Yorker Sam Gallup, a working Joe who hadn't worked since August but, with all-American gumption, drove to Montana for a new job and a new life. He went to work for the Stillwater Mining Company, and was let go the next day. But he still has a new life, albeit one of poverty and isolation. "Right now, I'm in the financial situation of losing everything," says Gallup, who the News says "is living in a friend's finished basement and hoping to move his fiancée and her son to Montana."
