S. Williamsburg Went McCain 84-16; Reasons Unclear

hikind.jpgToday's Brooklyn Paper reports that, even in bluest Brooklyn, South Williamsburg went big for McCain -- 84 to 16 percent -- in the late election. The paper casts about for reasons, and suggests some Hasidic voters may have been swayed by the United Jewish Organization (which doesn't make endorsements) or a traditional respect for "the elderly." One possible factor, unmentioned in the story: a strong denunciation of Obama for his involvement with Reverend Wright by respected orthodox Assemblyman and radio talk show host Dov Hikind who, though a Democrat, said in late October, "As a proud American and a proud Jew, I will cast my ballot for President for John McCain."
