Today's Fun Map: Top Brooklyn Polluters!

pollutermap.jpgBrooklynites: want to know where your pollution is coming from? Josh Skaller, President of the Central Brooklyn Independent Democrats and a 2009 candidate for City Council, has made a map of the top industrial waste producers in the borough based on EPA data. The map shows where the malefactors are located, and how much of which poisons they spew. The top entrant is Con Ed's Hudson Avenue Station, with total emissions of 4,103,373.96, mostly sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides. You can click to see what schools are near the polluters -- the Con Ed station is just 0.17 miles from JHS 265 -- or which ones are on it: Brooklyn College is among the polluters. It's a risky move on Skaller's part: it will get some people to vote for him, and drive some voters entirely out of his jurisdiction.
