A few hours back Allen Barra explained the
grave mistake the Jets made in replacing Chad Pennington with Brett Favre. Now the Associated Press has unlined Barra's point by naming Pennington the
Comeback Player of the Year. Pennington had previously won the award with the Jets in 2006. It reminds us of the
Times'
prophecy in August, when Favre ascended to the throne of Namath: "It's entirely possible that Pennington -- or so it says here -- could have outplayed Favre this season, in part because of his experience with the Jets' system. But Pennington couldn't have generated nearly the buzz and excitement that Favre will."
