Hollywood may not do as well in the New Depression as it did in the Old. Now the
Times is attributing a
wave of upcoming Broadway closings --
Young Frankenstein, Hairspray, Boeing-Boeing, and
Grease, among many others -- to the rotten economy, and the producers of
Gypsy are also saying as much, citing "uncertain financial times" as the spur to their planned March 1 shutdown.
Gypsy has been playing to weak houses for a while and was at 64 percent capacity last week. Our grandparents got Abbott and Costello, and we get
JibJab -- this Depression is going to suck!
