Lousy Economy Good News for Economics Teachers

nuttyprofessorright.jpgNot everyone hates the recession. College of Staten Island economics professor Jonathan Peters tells the Staten Island Advance that "it is a great time to be in this business" because financial collapse offers a "teachable moment" to his no doubt fascinated students. "Instead of simply discussing the theory surrounding a recession," the Advance says, "Peters can show students a real one, step by step." There's even a multicultural angle: a teacher at Manhattan's High School of Economics & Finance said last year "the inner-city kids were kind of indifferent" to his class -- so much so that he had to have them "chart NBA players' salaries and statistics" to hold their attention. But now, "all of a sudden, you see it's clicking. They're getting it." So cheer up: New York will have the best-informed bunch of hobos in economic history.
