Man Arrested in Bus Driver Slaying

moorearrest.jpgPolice have arrested a man they say stabbed a city bus driver to death yesterday. Cops say Horace Moore of Crown Heights asked for a bus transfer on the B46 bus at Gates Avenue and Malcolm X Boulevard, though he had not paid his fare; when the driver, Edwin Thomas, refused, Moore punched Thomas, then stabbed him in the chest and torso before fleeing. This was the first murder of a city bus driver since 1981, when Harvey Shield was shot dead in Sheepshead Bay. Yesterday's killing got coverage as far away as Great Britain. The Times says Moore, 20, had previously been arrested for illegal possession of an oversized knife, turnstile jumping, endangering the welfare of a child, and assault.
