Police have arrested a man
they say stabbed a city bus driver to death yesterday. Cops say Horace Moore of Crown Heights asked for a bus transfer on the B46 bus at Gates Avenue and Malcolm X Boulevard, though he had not paid his fare; when the driver, Edwin Thomas, refused, Moore punched Thomas, then stabbed him in the chest and torso before fleeing. This was the first murder of a city bus driver since 1981, when Harvey Shield
was shot dead in Sheepshead Bay. Yesterday's killing got coverage as far away as Great Britain
. The Times
says Moore, 20, had previously been arrested
for illegal possession of an oversized knife, turnstile jumping, endangering the welfare of a child, and assault.
