Marty Golden's Got Some Golden Chutzpah on Monserrate Seat

goldenlaughs.jpgBrooklyn state senator Martin Golden is threatening to block accused girlfriend slasher Hiram Monserrate from taking his seat as a new senator from Queens next month unless his felony rap is resolved. "The last thing the people of the city and state of New York want to see is someone in the Senate who is accused of committing a [Class] B felony," Golden griped to the Post's Fred Dicker.

But where was Golden's outrage when one of his own senate aides -- Owen Johnson, Jr., son of state senator Owen Johnson Sr., the veteran Long Island pol -- was arrested last spring for his own alleged domestic violence incident? As the Voice reported in September, Johnson Jr. was arrested in April for assaulting and threatening his roommate with a "deadly weapon." Both Golden and the Johnsons refused to answer questions about the incident. They also ducked questions about exactly how it happened that the son of a top senator came to hold a $65,000 a year job as a state senate "research assistant" working out of Golden's office in Bay Ridge.
