Early this morning councilmember and state senator-elect Hiram Monserrate -- familiar to regular readers as a
former Willets Point development obstructionist and member of the state senate "Gang of Four" (who
caved when he got a key appointment) -- showed up at Long Island Jewish Medical Center with
a woman who required stitches for what appeared to be a broken bottle attack. Now Liz Benjamin reports that the woman is Monserrate's girlfriend and that
Monserrate has been arrested and charged with assault. The alleged attack took place at 37-20 83rd Street in Jackson Heights, which is
Monserrate's address. Monserrate is a former New York police officer.
