Peggy Noonan: We'll Miss Bush When Obama Blows Us Up

nooners.jpgWSJ columnist Peggy Noonan goes to a Christmas party in Georgetown, where the Republicans have soured on President Bush but their complaints are "almost always followed by one sentence, and this is more or less what it was: 'But he kept us safe.'" And this makes her think: "Democrats will not want tacked onto the end of that sentence, 'unlike Obama.'" Since "the odds are high," she gleans from a Congressional report, that "the world will see a biological or nuclear terror attack in the next five years," Noonan is clearly expecting to be able to revisit this column years later and say see, I told you so. It's the only evident reason for it to exist, besides deadline pressure. (Jeffrey Bernard knew how to avoid such dilemmas.) That's how the great ones stay on top -- playing the long game.
