Santa Gets a Parking Ticket in Bay Ridge

Categories: Featured
santaticket.jpgZeitgeist-wise, you can't get much more miserable than this. The Daily News has a story today about a man dressed as Santa whose sleigh -- or rather, the Chevy Suburban (presumably driven by an elf) which toted his toys for kids while Santa rode in a horse-drawn carriage as part of a "Shop Brooklyn Friday" event sponsored by the Brooklyn Borough President -- got a parking ticket in Bay Ridge for double-parking. "The kids started crying: 'That's Santa's car! That's Santa's car!'" Santa impersonator Chip Cafiero tells the News. "But this grinch just went ahead and fined me anyways."

In earlier coverage of the event, councilmember Vincent Gentile told the Brooklyn Eagle, "Where else can you get the best hospitality but here on Third Avenue? You can't beat that hospitality in New Jersey shopping areas. You can't get it at the malls. But you can get Brooklyn hospitality right here on Third Avenue and throughout the borough!"

Cafiero says he'll fight it. "It looks like Santa Claus will have to make a special trip from the North Pole to traffic court," said outgoing state senator Marty Golden. Maybe the fed-up St. Nick will just mail it in and evade the borough entirely henceforth. Jesus, this is shaping up to be a lousy Christmas. We're switching over to Kwanzaa.
