SNL Mocks Paterson As Bumbling Cokehead; Gov Raps Blind Jokes

Governor Paterson was pissed at this weekend's Saturday Night Live sketch in which Fred Armisen portrayed him as a Jersey-hating, crinkly-voiced fool with a history of cocaine abuse and marital infidelities who underlines his own jokes and admits he was "comically unprepared" to become Governor. (Video here.) None of these features of the skit appeared in the indictment, though; the Governor's office just complained that SNL "chose to ridicule people with physical disabilities and imply that disabled people are incapable of having jobs with serious responsibilities." Paterson himself told the Daily News that "Only 37% of disabled people are working and I'm afraid that that kind of third-grade humor certainly adds to this atmosphere."

This is nobler than, say, arguing the sketch unfairly portrayed the administrative capacities of former coke users but, like almost anything else Paterson might have said about it, it will merely make more people watch the video and compare Paterson's sense of humor to that of Stevie Wonder, who was shown in one old SNL sketch taking very bad photographs. No matter how bad the show sucks, no politician will ever win a fight with it.
