Staten Island May Get Some Brothers Up In Here

Categories: Featured, Politics
debirose.jpgThe Borough That Should Be Jersey may get its first black elected official in an upcoming special city council election, reports the Staten Island Advance. Among the seven Democrats contesting for the seat of Michael McMahon, who is vacating to go to Congress, are two African-Americans, Community Board member Debi Rose of Mariners Harbor and peace activist Rev. Dr. Tony Baker of Port Richmond. Also running, says the Advance, are "Rajiv Gowda of Mariners Harbor, who is Indian-American, and Paul Saryian of West Brighton, who is of Hispanic and Armenian descent," and three white people.
