The Yule Log Returns

Categories: Featured, Media

Years ago in the Voice James Wolcott observed that the WPIX Yule Log -- a film loop of a roaring fireplace at Gracie Mansion -- proved that television had progressed from surrealism to science fiction. Now the local station announces to a breathless public that it will in fact bring back the Yule Log this Christmas, when it will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Log debuted in 1966, was discontinued in 1990 in a thoughtless bow to modernity, and revived in 2001, when its ratings beat those of Good Morning America. amNY has a slide show history here.
