There was already a "
New Yorkers for Bill Thompson" website urging us to support his mayoral bid, and he's been dropping hints and -- most significantly --
standing up to Bloomberg, but today comptroller William C. Thompson
put in his papers with the Campaign Finance Board and made it official. The
Times says he'll report about $5 million in contributions and get another $1.6 million in matching funds, which puts him in a league with the front-runner, Congressman
Anthony Weiner. (Councilmember
Tony Avella is running too, and has about a
quarter million, some of which he should devote to his
campaign website.)
