Bloomberg Goes to Israel, Supports Strikes on Gaza

bloombergsuave.jpgAs is customary for New York City mayors, Michael Bloomberg went to Israel this weekend to show support for the country in its recent struggles with Hamas. He was accompanied by Police Commissioner Ray Kelly and Queens Congressman Gary Ackerman, and returned to New York this morning. While in Sderot, the Mayor said that "Israel is the only true democracy in this part of the world," and endorsed its strikes on Gaza: "All Hamas has to do," he said, "is stop sending rockets over to kill people and agree on the accords that were negotiated earlier and come to an agreement that is verifiable, durable and effective to stop people from being killed." Kelly revealed that the NYPD has a detective "assigned over here." The delegation got to visit a bomb shelter when a rocket attack was announced, and Bloomberg received a prayer book dedicated to a girl killed in a previous attack. A spokesman for the New York chapter of the American Muslim Alliance said Bloomberg "should represent all New Yorkers, not one segment of the population."
