City Cabs May Get Spy Cameras

cabsinflightleft.jpgEmpireCLS Worldwide Chauffeured Transportation claims the surveillance cameras it has affixed to the outside of its vehicles have saved the company half a million dollars by showing its drivers' lack of culpability in accidents. Cabs companies around the world either installing cameras or asking for them to increase driver and passenger safety. Now the Taxi and Limousine Commissioner Matthew Daus wants similar cameras stuck on local cabs as part of a pilot program. Taxi Worker's Alliance president Bhairavi Desai calls the cameras "an invasion of privacy," and cab company group Committee for Taxi Safety wants the program to be voluntary, owing to costs.
