Collapsing State Will Complete Major Public Works Anyway, Says Gov

patersonpitchesleft.jpgA new CareerBuilder poll claims that almost 1 in 5 Americans "actually plan to leave their current job before the end of the year." They don't specify whether they expect to leave voluntarily, though. If they're New Yorkers, we hope they have some money saved up for their extended downtime, as the state's unemployment system has been buckling under the strain of recent layoff claims, crashing its computers over the past couple of days.

That Federal money can't come fast enough! But what if it doesn't? Governor Paterson, in his State of the State speech today (the SotS is "perilous," BTW), said "if the Federal government does not act, then I shall" -- in a touring production of Nicholas Nickleby as Jo the crossing sweeper. No, what he means is he'll do his own stimulus, employing local drifters and 'bos to complete work on the Tappan Zee Bridge, the Second Avenue Subway, and the East Side Access. Also, as previously announced, he will tax our asses off.
