DA Raids Bushwick Warehouse

District Attorney investigators raided a Chinese-owned warehouse in an industrial section of Bushwick on Monday, seizing heaps of counterfeit goods, including 2,000 laser-equipped toy guns.

Realistic toy guns have been illegal in New York since the fifties, and the Bloomberg administration - as part of its overall gun-control mission - moved to make the laws stricter a few years ago.

The Bushwick warehouse, Ya Mei Trading, was full of black market wares from China: counterfeit Yankees caps, Disney products, Spiderman stuff, and Chanel hair goods.

Also, investigators found what are known as "grey market" items - products certified for sale in other countries, but not manufactured to American safety and consumer protection standards. Among those, according to the Brooklyn District Attorney's office, were Dove soap, Bic razors and Halls cough drops, and household extension cords that posed a fire hazard. With environmental hazards being what they are in China, we really don't want to know what's in that soap or those cough drops.
