Gotham Book Collection Donated to Penn

gothambookmart.jpg

If you miss the old Gotham Book Mart -- the historic literary mecca which nourished (both literally and figuratively) writers of varying fame from 1920 to 2007, as detailed in John K's lovely testimonial here -- you will soon be able to go to the University of Pennsylvania and survey its contents. An anonymous donor, suspected to be culturally astute Penn alumnus Leonard Lauder, has donated the Gotham collection to the University. When the owner fell massively behind on his rent, the landlord foreclosed and bought its contents at auction. Once they're sorted, Gotham's books, papers, catalogues and ephemera will await your inspection in the University's Rare Book and Manuscript Library.
