Little Anthony & The Imperials, Run-D.M.C. to Rock Hall

rockhall09.jpg

We know it's silly, but we're excited for homeboys Little Anthony & The Imperials and Run-D.M.C., who have just been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The Imperials began in Brooklyn -- Little Anthony, aka Jerome Anthony Gourdine, grew up in the Fort Greene projects -- and Run-D.M.C. is, like Mario Cuomo, Al Sharpton, and Colin Powell, Hollis royalty. Little Anthony and the Imperials hit with "Tears on My Pillow," "Shimmy Shimmy Koko Bop," "Hurt So Bad," et alia, and you all know about Run-D.M.C. The other 2009 Hall of Famers are Yardbird/guitar god Jeff Beck, pride of Cleveland Bobby Womack, and Metallica. Wanda Jackson ("Fujiyama Mama") enters in the "Early Influence" category, and in the sideman inductees are Elvis rhythm section D.J. Fontana and Bill Black and Muscle Shoals keyboardist and songwriter ("Cry Like a Baby") Spooner Oldham.
