"Bernard Madoff could be forced to trade his luxurious penthouse for a jail cell," said
WCBS hopefully. They and we, alas, were disappointed when a judge ruled this morning that, despite his last-minute attempts to
smuggle jewelry to his relatives, master criminal Madoff will
stay free on bail. "The government has failed to
articulate any flaw in the current conditions of release," ruled Judge Ronald Ellis. Well, we guess Madoff will still be restricted to his little bungalow (pictured) on Park Avenue and guarded by "private security guards paid for by his wife." The judge did ask him to make a list of his possessions so authorities will be able to tell if Madoff tries to sneak out any more of them. The
Post coverage shows Madoff doing that
weird thing he does with his cheeks, probably to keep from laughing.
