Sorta Senator Burris Takes D.C.

burris.jpgRoland Burris made the stirring declaration that his appointment to the Senate by beleaguered Governor Rod Blagojevich "is legal. What has been done here is legal," and flew into Baltimore-Washington International Airport today, where he declared himself the junior Senator from Illinois. The Secretary of the Senate nonetheless refused to accept his papers, which have not been signed by the Illinois Secretary of State. There is some question as to how long such tactics can work. Lynn Sweet suggests that, despite his defiant claims of legitimacy, Burris may turneth away wrath with a gentle answer to the question, "Do you renounce 2010?" Meanwhile Illinois legislators are considering data from the Federal investigation of Blagojevich before attempting to impeach him.
